Overview

This budget hotel pulls out all the stops for presentation and customer service. It’s set in a beautifully restored Victorian building on Palmerston Place, at the West End of Edinburgh’s New Town. It’s a great choice for hen parties: as well as swish private rooms with feature walls and en suite showers, there are four dorm rooms, complete with mobile phone lockers, and not only can you leave your hairdryer behind, this place also has hair straighteners – nice touch.

There’s a laundry room and well-equipped communal kitchen if you want to whip up a snack, but the menu at the Time Bar and Bistro is tempting, and you get a good discount as a hotel guest. You can enjoy gourmet burgers and hot dogs, as well as pub classic like fish and chips, nachos and haggis neeps and tatties. The bar is open to residents and non-residents until 11pm during the week and 1am at weekends, when you could catch some live music.

The hotel is set just three minutes walk from Haymarket train station, in an area full of character pubs, and close to the nightlife hub of Lothian Road. You have easy tram and bus access to the city centre, just 1.5 miles to the east, or you can get discount with the hotel’s preferred taxi firms – just ask at reception.

Facilities

This budget hostel style hotel has two types of accommodation. There are private rooms with their own showers, hair-dryers, TV's, and tea and coffee making facilities, and dorm rooms. Dorm guests tend to make use of the well-equipped communal kitchen and laundry room.

There is a bar and bistro that is open late for drinks, and serves up food until 21:00 at weekends and 20:30 during the week. Live music is on offer at weekends, and you can watch sport on the plasma screen in the bar.

Reception is open from 20:00 to 23:00 but guests have round-the-clock access with a room key.

There is no on-site parking at this hotel.
